Clerkships

Similar to other courts of justice, the Human Rights Tribunal actively participates in the education and internship of future lawyers in order to help them further develop their legal research, analysis, and writing skills.

Each year, the Tribunal accepts two articling students who have completed their professional training at the Ã‰cole du Barreau du Québec and who demonstrate a marked interest in matters of human rights and freedoms.

The Tribunal also accepts a third-year law student for a 6-credit internship which takes place during the course of the academic year.

Articling Students of the Ã‰cole du Barreau du Québec

The articling student will conduct innovative research in Quebec, Canadian and international law related to Human Rights and Freedoms, as well as in civil, administrative, constitutional and employment law.

The student will also be assigned varied tasks and specific mandates by the President of the Human Rights Tribunal as well as by other members of the Tribunal and its legal team.

Furthermore, he/she will attend the Tribunal’s hearings and participate in the various internship activities offered to the judges and assessors of the Tribunal.

The available articling positions are published in October on the website of the Ã‰cole du Barreau du Québec at the following address: http://www.ecoledubarreau.qc.ca. The articling periods begin in February and August, respectively.

University Undergraduate Training Program

The undergraduate internship takes place during the course of two university semesters, from September to April.

At the beginning of the Fall semester, the student will receive theoretical training by the Tribunal’s lawyer.

During the internship, the student will conduct research, write various documents in preparation for the hearings and decisions, as well as attend hearings.

The recruitment for this internship is done by the universities who will submit to the Tribunal one candidate to participate in the program. The Tribunal will then select one student from among the referred candidates.
